A Look Ahead at 2017 with SquareOne Villages

As we settle in to the new year, we wanted to provide you with an update on what to expect from SquareOne Villages in 2017. Emerald Village. A big focus this year will be on building Emerald Village. We received land use approvals for the 22-unit affordable tiny home community this past October. Site construction is scheduled to begin in March. Once the infrastructure is set and the foundations are poured, we have 13 different design-build teams ready to erect a tiny house. In addition to that, SquareOne will be organizing skilled volunteers to assist in the construction of 8 more tiny houses using structural insulated panels (SIPs). Sustaining Opportunity Village

Opportunity Village Eugene (OVE), our transitional village for unhoused individuals and couples, was built in 2013 by volunteers and has always benefited from the energy, commitment, and financial support of our wider community. Thank you! It indeed does take a village to sustain a Village. The annual expense budget for OVE is about $45,000. This includes utilities (EWEB, phone, wifi, garbage service, pellets for the wood stove in the yurt); some maintenance and building supplies; insurance; and personnel costs, which include a portion of our Executive Director’s and Bookkeeper’s salary, and a part-time (10 hours/week) Village Coordinator.
