Sustaining Opportunity Village

January 9, 2017

Opportunity Village Eugene (OVE), our transitional village for unhoused individuals and couples, was built in 2013 by volunteers and has always benefited from the energy, commitment, and financial support of our wider community.  Thank you!  It indeed does take a village to sustain a Village.

The annual expense budget for OVE is about $45,000. This includes utilities (EWEB, phone, wifi, garbage service, pellets for the wood stove in the yurt); some maintenance and building supplies; insurance; and personnel costs, which include a portion of our Executive Director’s and Bookkeeper’s salary, and a part-time (10 hours/week) Village Coordinator.

Villagers pay $30/month towards utilities. OVE typically is home for 34 people, which means that Villagers’ utility payments total about $1,000/month, or $12,000 for the year.  We fill the gap in the budget with contributions from individuals, grants from foundations when we receive these, and community fundraisers such as the Papa’s Pizza fundraiser we’re doing this month on the 25th.  OVE receives no public subsidies. We rely entirely on community support from people like you.

Please consider becoming an Opportunity Village Sustainer by signing up for an ongoing monthly donation. Your monthly donation doesn’t have to be large; everything adds up and everything helps. A donation of $5 a month provides 1 night of shelter for one of our residents.

Join us for a Fundraiser at Papa’s Pizza Wednesday, January 25

What’s better than pizza to beat the January blahs?  Pizza with friends, villagers and Board members of Opportunity Village, that’s what!

Join us on Wednesday, January 25 at Papa’s Pizza at the corner of W 11th and Chambers.  Papa’s will donate 50% of all pizza and food orders – eat in or take out – to Opportunity Village Eugene. (Delivery orders are excluded, and so are beverages.)

From 6:00-7:30 pm, Steve Gibson and his Cross Current musician friends will play some songs that you’ll know and love.

Bring the flyer (below) with you on the 25th.  Download and print it now so you have it!  If you forget to take the flyer with you, simply mention the Opportunity Village fundraiser when you’re at the payment counter, and you’ll get the donation.  The fundraiser goes all day long, 11 am – 12 am.
