Cottage Village Design Workshop

This month SquareOne facilitated a design workshop for our Cottage Village project, which informed our final site plan presented below.

The event brought together six Lane County based landscape architects to collaborate with the Cottage Village Coalition—a group of community members and organizations in the Cottage Grove area working in partnership with SquareOne to bring the village to fruition.

We began by walking the one-acre site to assess the existing conditions. Afterwards, we headed indoors and broke into groups to develop three site design alternatives. Each group presented their ideas and then we discussed common themes amongst them as a whole.

SquareOne staff then took those ideas back to the office to finalize a site plan.

The plan calls for 13 tiny homes utilizing three different floor plans. We intend to use the existing shop building on the site to pre-manufacture panels for building the homes, and then renovate that building to serve as a central common house once the homes are complete. The site has poor drainage and a high water table, so a retention pond has been planned for the low point of the site. And considering that Cottage Grove is the covered bridge capital of Oregon, we couldn't resist adding one along a path that connects the village to the surrounding neighborhood and a nearby park.

But we need your help to make it happen!
